I would think putting 22 watts through a 15 watt rated speaker as a bad thing. It sounds good but I think a Weber Blue Dog or even the Celestion Gold would be better suited for the amp, especially if you want to drive it more.

You are correct regarding the wattage of the Blue. I wasn't anywhere near to cranking the amp though. I've read that people have used the Blue at close to full throttle with a DR, but I wouldn't risk blowing my good speaker this way.

Has that unmistakable Alnico Blue sound. Funny how that speaker sounds like an old radio speaker. I thought so when I played it in my 57 Deluxe - looked it up and thats what it is! A replica of an old 50's speaker. Funny how the sound of the 50's can be so beautiful and most of the speakers today are junk. Nice sound here. Love the DRRI and the PRRI! Wish they had a 10" for my PRRI...

Thanks, Steve. I'm glad you enjoyed it. A 10" Blue would be very cool. I'd drop one in my rebuilt 1971 Princeton Reverb.

This is *easily* one of the best sound samples on Youtube.
Alnico 2 neck pickup through a Celstion Blue can be nothing but sweet and complex sounding.

Thanks, hockey2204. They are great speakers and coupled with this amp, it really gives it up. It can growl pretty good too. One of these days I'm going to have to record that tone too.

I had Mike McGuirk rebuild my DRRI also, but I have a tone tubby alnico speaker in it with the early (untreated) hempcone. It sounds delightful although I do have a Celestion Blue I could try.

@TubeBlasterOne amp sounds great buddy!! , i have a peavey classic 30 with a celestion vintage 30 and jj tubes, such a powerfull sound!! sounds wicked with the ibanez ts808 , i can get very close to roy buchanan tone with it , if you like that sort of thing.
I only wish my neighbours appreciated celestion speakers. ;) they are great speakers.

@chiLLouTmang .....ive not tried many speakers but i love my celestion vintage 30 , in a blues jnr you will not be disappointed , they sound great stock though dont they?? but you can not go wrong with celestion , i got one in my classic 30 cost £73 and a full set off jj tubes and have no reason what so ever to venture further. just my opinion though buddy. hope it helps

Nice one Wayne. Great tone and recording. I read your story about the rebuild you got Mikey "Mann" to perform. What a well documented rebuild!! Great and inspiring stuff.
